Interview with Patryk, by L'Édition métallique (2002)
Interview with
Howling Syn
by Empereur GHOULE

L'Édition Métallique : Howling Syn released it's very first full album, "Forebearers Of Dusk", at the end of Winter 2002,. How have the fans reacted to it?

Patryk : They loved it! And the better side of this story is that newer fans got attracted to the album too, fans joining those who had been behind us all the time these last two years. With Mp3.com, we mostly had fans outside our homeland, but now radio interviews and live performances enabled us to enlarge or local Quebec fanbase. Critics loved the album too, and so this truly satisfies us! Now we have to maintain our grip on Quebec and get ready for our worldwide attack!

L'Édition Métallique : Howling Syn is one of those many bands that benefited from Mp3.com's explosion, even without having a single real album ready. What about today? Is "Forebearers Of Dusk" avalaible out of Quebec?

Patryk : Mp3.com... what a story! Everybody asks me about that, all the time! Well, I can say that this virtual platform enabled us to both build solid foundations throughout the world and finance our first full album. Sadly our international fans cannot at this time go to their favorite Metal store and buy our record... time will arrange this, however, and you can still buy the album online if you want.

L'Édition Métallique : On November 2nd "Day Of The Dead" 2002, three marvelous Melodic Metal outfits will be performing at Montreal's Zest : Moonlyght, Liva and, of course, Howling Syn. Tell us more about this show.

Patryk : Howling Syn and the Day Of The Dead : the perfect night to open the door to your imagination and experience true fantasy! I really wanted to release "Forebearers Of Dusk" on Halloween 2001, but I only suceeded in releasing it in April 2002. After the April listening party though, November 2nd was an ideal date to make a true release party! Moonlyght too had been releasing it's first album not too long ago, and Liva is releasing it's own full-length musical opus soon enough. I love these bands' music and think it goes well with Howling Syn's own musical universe. I know that night will really be a hell of night!!!

L'Édition Métallique : Would you like Howling Syn to participate to special non-Metal events? A convention, a book launch, a festival, anything related to Fantasy?

Patryk : Sure! We'll be by the way participating to the Metalexpo 2003, a Metal convention featuring international Metal-related personalities. We're set to play at the end of the event. But this is still far... I would agree to the fact that we aren't only related to Metal music though. Every artistic and interesting event potentially interests Howling Syn. I see the band participating to many events and even compose
and record film scores, who knows?!

L'Édition Métallique : So Howling Syn isn't only related to Metal? Do you think Gothic people, Fantastic aficionados, Fantasy fans and dark poetry lovers will feel concerned by your music? Have you tried approaching these crowds?

Patryk : Many role-playing games fans listen to Howling Syn. I often receive e-mails in which RPGamers tell me they play their games with Howling Syn's songs as a musical background. The goth community is also beginning to know us better. We've made interviews in both Trinité Gothik and Hymni Nocturnales, two fanzines many Montreal-based dark creatures read. But the Gothic community is really large, so we can't reach everybody. All in all, I would say Howling Syn's non-Metal influences make it's music special... at the same time, without the Metal mainframe, there would be nothing. Saying Metal isn't a part of HS would be lying.

L'Édition Métallique : What can we expect from Howling Syn for the upcoming year?

Patryk : As much live shows as possible. And we're preparing our second album. We'll also be working on a world release for "Forebearers Of Dusk", all the while continuing to haunt as many sound systems as possible!

L'Édition Métallique : Our classical ending : do you have any last comments for all the axe-wielding
murderers, zombies, vampires, lycanthropes, ghosts, satanists and other devilish siblings roaming around L'Édition Métallique?

Patryk : Thanks for being there! STAY EVIL!!!
