Review of Forebearers of Dusk, by Capital of Metal (2004)
| |
What is amazing with an album such as Forebearers of Dusk is all the attention given to different themes and the respect of these in the music itself. The nearly theatrical songs are very visual and demonstrate a vast variety of personalities to Howling Syn, ranging from black to gothic and even power metal !
Patryk Pigeon, the bass player and frontman of the band delivers a strong vocal performance, altering his voice in every possible way, thus giving us the impression he suffers from multiple personalities disorder ! The great melodic female vocals are marvellously done by Sophie LeMay.
The only complain I have about this album is that the final product, even if great, seems drowned by the enormous amount of songs. But people who like long, epic albums will enjoy this one, finding their way with delight through the numerous songs.
So, if you enjoy bands such as Moonspell, Nightwish and Cradle of Filth, Howling Syn will surely seduce you and you will most likely enjoy and devour Forebearers of Dusk. This is the band’s first album and it’s great … watch out for the next one !
